Why and how has China covered the Black Lives Matter (BLM), a movement with emerging themes closely related to its domestic issues? To what extent does Chinese media build unified discourse on sensitive that underpin BLM? These are important questions given China's complicated history ethnicity, race, protests. This article argues uses BLM as multi-faceted propaganda tool foster cohesion at ideological level. NVivo-powered coding thematic analysis show mainstream media, including official, semi-official commercial we-media do not present uniform BLM. While they generally converge criticism towards “protests” “police” action, display nuanced “anti-US” “Greater China” discourse. Moreover, coverage is used undermine US strengthen by comparison party-state's legitimacy. In absence of reflective discussion racist undertones emerge in we-media.
